We’re expecting around forty clarinettists for this popular course led by world renowned clarinettists David Campbell and Margaret Archibald. Course participants will be divided into two large choirs or four ensembles for many sessions, and pianist John Flinders will join the course tutors for work on some of the easier clarinet and piano repertoire. Course members give an informal concert on Sunday afternoon,
while an added bonus is the public recital, part of the International Concert Series, which the tutors play on the Friday evening, and for which all course participants receive a free ticket.

Caroline Franklyn and Stephanie Reeve return to offer woodwind players of intermediate standard
and above a varied course which will improve ensemble playing and sight reading. The repertoire is hugely varied, you are invited to bring your own along too, and players of flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, bass clarinet and any size of saxophone are welcome. Although there will be plenty of opportunity for chamber music, the main focus of the course is the large ensemble, which will play four-part arrangements and original compositions.

Janet Myatt introduces players, who might come as individuals or as newly-established ensembles, to one-to-a-part playing in groups of similar abilities. She’s an expert at finding music to suit different combinations of instruments too. Minimum standard expected is grade three of reasonable sight-reading standard. Perhaps you are rejuvenating old skills, have just taken up an nstrument or you are already a competent player but lack experience in ensemble playing. Whatever the case, this is the course for you.

The accent is on friendly mutual learning on this popular course. You’ll play in ensembles ranging from quartets to a whole saxophone choir, and for additional help there will be masterclasses and technique clinics. No previous experience of ensemble playing is necessary, but pre-formed quartets are welcomed. Music is provided, but you can also bring your own.
