Winner of Geneva Clarinet Competition announced

The clarinet jury, composed of seven renowned figures of the clarinet world and chaired by Israeli clarinetist Sharon Kam, awarded First Prize to Mr. Kevin Spagnolo (22 years old, Italy). Mr. Vitor Fernandes (24 years old, Portugal) won Second Prize and Mr. Carlos Ferreira (24 years old, Portugal) was awarded Third Prize.

The Geneva Clarinet Competition 2018 comprised five competition rounds, including a preselection round last Spring (video recording). During the final round, the three candidates performed two concertos, with the Geneva Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Pierre Bleuse, including the prizewinning piece of last year’s Composition Prize by Jaehyuck Choi (1st Prize 2017). The final round was held on 14 November 2018 at Bâtiment des Forces Motrices in Geneva, Switzerland.

Members of the 2018 clarinet jury were: Sharon Kam (Israel, President), Vincent Alberola (Spain), Jerry Chae (Korea), Lorenzo Coppola (Italy), Romain Guyot (France), Kari Kriikku (Finland) and Richard Stoltzman (USA).
