ClarinetFest and European Clarinet Festival

ClarinetFest and European Clarinet Festival

This article was posted on 12 Sep 2019.

This summer has seen two major international clarinet festivals take place: ClarinetFest, run by the International Clarinet Association, and the European Clarinet Festival. ClarinetFest 2019 took place in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA on 24-28 July. Artistic director Victor Chavez Jr and the artistic leadership team – Gary Sperl, Robert Walzel, Vanguel Tangarov and Jessica Harrie – presented a conference entitled Embracing the World, in partnership with the University of Tennessee. The event featured performances by the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra among many other leading soloists and groups of all sizes and genres. The ninth European Clarinet Festival took place in Camerino, Italy on 10-14 August. The artistic director, Piero Vincenti, was assisted by artistic leadership team members Antonio Fraioli, Angelo Semeraro, Rocco Masci and Vincenzo Correnti. The congress was organised by the Accademia Italiana del Clarinetto in partnership with the Camerino Municipal Administration and the University of Camerino. Camerino suffered a devastating earthquake in 2016, and the festival symbolised hope and support for the town. Reports on both events will feature in a future issue of Clarinet & Saxophone.
