The Clarinet and Saxophone Society of Great Britain (CASSGB) was founded in 1976 for the benefit of anyone with an interest in these instruments and the music playable on them (which increasingly means just about anything!). We are very proud to be an organisation for everyone, young or old, keen amateur, student, or celebrated soloist, from Great Britain or abroad.
CASSGB is looking for a proactive and motivated Magazine Editor to continue the publishing of our quarterly magazine for our members. Working closely with our writers, designer and printers, the editor is responsible for the end-to-end editing and production of our quarterly magazine “Clarinet & Saxophone”.
The Clarinet and Saxophone magazine is one of the cornerstones of the society and is distributed internationally to all its members.
The magazine covers anything and everything to do with the clarinet and saxophone world including Interviews with international artists, news, analysis, reviews. You could find yourself writing or editing about a concert review, latest developments of instruments or an interview with a Grammy nominee.
As well as delivering fresh-thinking content and ideas, this role requires strong entrepreneurial flair, and a strong commercial understanding. We are looking for an editor to help move the society and the magazine forward and help grow our reader base. Each editor has come and put on their own stamp to our magazine to move us forward in our journey.
The role of the Editor is also responsible for the advertising opportunities within magazine and website. Commercial understanding and ability to build strong relationships with writers, suppliers and advertisers is a must for this role.
This is a freelance role.
What the role involves:
- Take ownership of our end-to-end magazine creation and production from planning, creation, and delivery
- Manage and source advertising for the CASSGB magazine and website to meet revenue targets agreed by the CASSGB board of directors
- Create theme and contents for the magazine
- Source and commission articles
- Create and manage plans
- Liaise with designers, writers, advertisers, and printers
- Create and design a strategy for the magazine
- Build and maintain client relationships
- Research and actively build industry knowledge
- Be an active member of the CASSGB leadership team and support with events and quarterly meetings
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A minimum of two years’ experience of writing/editing a magazine, preferably in the Arts
- Excellent accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent organisational skills / multi-tasker
- Strong communications skills with ability to build strong relationships
- An excellent team player
- Motivated self-starter
- Confidence and enthusiasm to attend events/ recitals/concerts to generate content and to hold face to face interviews
- Knowledge of clarinets and saxophones
What we offer:
- £2300 - £2500 Flat Fee per magazine
- 20% Commission on advertising revenue
