Winner of the CASSGB Young Saxophone Soloist competition announced

We would like to congratulate all six finalists who performed at the 2020 CASSGB Young Saxophone Soloist competition on Sunday 12th January at the Craxton Studios, London. The finalists, aged from 15 to 19 were competing for prizes totalling £3000. Each player performed a fifteen minute recital and the audience were entertained with an afternoon of high level peformances showcasing a wide variety of repertoire. The judging panel was Richard Ingham (President of CASSGB), Naomi Sullivan (Head of Saxophone at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire), and Sarah Watts (CASSGB board member, and Director of Performance at Sheffield University).

Particular congratulations go to the winner Daniel Davis (16, pictured right) from Wales who performed the Iturralde Pequeña Czarda, alongside a piece specially written for him by his accompanist Daniel Bickerton. Second place went to Alife Ward (15, pictured centre) from Manchester who played works by Demersseman, Creston, and Milhaud. Third place was awarded to Rania van den Ouweland (19) from Brighton who is currently a student at the University of Sussex. She performed works by Borne and Iturralde.
