Zucchi success at ROSL

Zucchi success at ROSL

This article was posted on 11 Nov 2021.

It’s been a triumphant couple of weeks for London-based Canadian saxophonist David Zucchi at the 2021 Royal Overseas League (ROSL) Annual Music Competition. Firstly, he picked up the Mixed Ensembles Prize as part of the saxophone and accordion Mikeleiz-Zucchi Duo, performing alongside Spanish accordionist Iñigo Mikeleiz-Berrade; then just a week later, he was awarded the Overseas Prize, contested between selected musicians from across the instrument category finals who are from outside the UK.

And the party still might not be over for Zucchi. Following their win in the mixed ensemble category, the Mikeleiz-Zucchi Duo now go on to compete against the other category final winners in the overall Gold Medal Final on Wednesday 24 November. Fingers crossed!

Now in its 69th year, the ROSL Annual Music Competition awards around £80,000 in prize money to musicians aged 30 and under across various solo and ensemble categories, as well as offering professional development and performance opportunities to the winning artists. Until now, the competition has been open to UK and Commonwealth citizens; however, from 2022, solo prizes will be opened up to musicians from the USA, EU and EEA countries, and Switzerland (ensembles will still need to have one player who is a UK or Commonwealth citizen). Applications are now open and close on Thursday 6 January.
